Dr. Appointment
Today we took sweet pea for her two year checkup. She weighed in at 28 1/2 pounds and is 37 inches tall which puts her in the 75% for her weight and off the chart for her height. Every single pediatrician visit sweet pea has attended as soon as Dr. W walks in she begins to scream and screams until she leaves. Today was totally different, when the nurse pricked her finger for blood work she says Owe! But no crying!!!! Then when Dr. W checks her she sits in my lap like a big girl and opens her mouth and does as she's told. This is a major 180 from only 6 months ago! Dr. W was very impressed that she was potty trained and we got a urine sample for her two year checkup. Nothing bad to report except she's slightly anemic. I'm hoping I can change her diet a little to help with the problem but for the next 6 weeks she'll have to take a supplement. She said by all guidelines sweet pea looks to be about 6'2" as an adult. Are both of my children going to outgrow me? I pray the days pass by slowly because I really don't want to think about my children as adults :(

Happy Birthday Sweet Pea

I know I say this at every birthday but I can't believe my baby is two! She has taught me how to love, unconditionally. This is how I see Sweet Pea. She's very smart, very cuddly, such a mommy's girl, lots of hugs and kisses, funny-she loves to laugh, knows what she wants. She's taught me that the child that I see is not the child that every ones else sees. She's always-and I mean always been a mommy's girl from the first moment I held her. I remember as a three month old she would scream at her grandparents even if they just looked at her! She's come around though. It was moments like this that our pediatrician told us she had a very strong type A personality. I quote, "Sucks for you guys but she's going to make an awesome adult" At 3 months my pediatrician told me basically you have a difficult child good luck but she should prosper well! I don't see Sweet Pea as "difficult" I see her as a child who is determined to get what she wants. Lately she's come across a mean streak. She has taken to pinching the boys-not her brother but our other play dates. Discipline you say? I say how? We've tried multiple things and so far she only laughs, so we'll just keep trying and praying and hopefully one day it will sink in! I don't want to plan my children's future but I would just about peg her for the child that will not need much pushing to achieve success. She's an awesome puzzle solver, she knows her ABC's, days of the weeks, colors, and she can count to ten. She loves to sing especially Barney's I love you song! God has blessed us with Sweet Pea and I thank him each day for letting me be her mommy. Happy Birthday Sweet Pea, I love you.

From the mouths of Babes
We've been offering the potty to Ms. Sweet Pea, sometimes she'll bite and sometimes not. Last night after swimming we came inside and she started doing the potty dance so I took her to it and she attempted. Well a mommy can only be so helpful so I told her to push. She goes "uugghhh It's Stuck!"
After bath one night Chris pokes Sweet Pea's belly and says your getting to be a tubby tub. At which she replies I a tubby tub. She seemed so proud!

Samuel 1:27
For this child I have prayed, and the Lord has granted the desires of my heart.
This verse applies to so many parents that we know. And for any parent whose prayer has been answered it is truely a joy to your heart. This is Li's story, it still brings tears to my eyes but they are tears of joy because the lord has given me 4 wonderful years with this little guy and for that we are so greatful.
Li's pregnancy was fairly uneventful until the last 2 months anyway! I began to develop preeclampsia and was put on bed rest the week before he was born. At the beginning of a pregnancy bed rest appears to be a blessing but at the end all I wanted to do was clean! That's where Nanna came in-she nested for me, all the way down to pulling the fridge out and cleaning behind it! I was able to use the toothbrush on the windows myself ;) That week was fairly eventful, I had been in the hospital twice for observation but since he was early they wanted to wait. Well on March 15 I arise and try to begin my non productive day with a sick stomach! Let me just say 8 months is not the time to vomit, extremely uncomfortable! My mom was cleaning the bathroom-told you she was the best-and Mr. Li had not moved this morning so off to the ob's we go. Well after some checking he decides I need to be observed at the hospital again because my blood pressure was up. I of course call Chris but tell him it's no big deal we'll be home later just go on home when you get off work. My blood pressure really must have been crazy because the next few days are fairly sporadic at best. Ultrasound lady comes in and says he's breech. Still nothing registering in my head. Nurse comes in snatches my water and tells me c-section at 5 simultaneously as husband walks through the door. All he could say was you told me to go home-at which point he gets details and goes home-he told me he was to dirty to be holding a new baby! I remember thinking that I hope Chris calls people because I sure haven't. Around 4:30 they take me back to recovery and all I could think was oh no he's not going to make it back. Chris makes it and without getting a speeding ticket thank goodness and at 5:19 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 Li arrives. After my two minute introduction they wisk him and Chris away to the nursery. He began developing some breathing issues so they took Li to the NICU and I had to be put on medication for my blood pressure and was not supposed to be moved. So I did not get to see him until about 1:30 a.m. and that required major begging on Chris' part and major crying on my part. You see in the delivery room Chris forgot to put my glasses on me so I really could not see Li. I initially thought he was a good size baby because my ob held him up to show me after delivery, well Li was spread eagle and Dr. M really isn't that big so in that position he looked at least 6 pounds! Once Chris arrived by my side with him I could tell he was really small only 4 lb 15 oz, 19 inches long. Looking at him today you really would have thought he would have been bigger! So I finally saw him at about 1:30 and then at 3:30 a.m. the neonatologist comes in to tell us that they had to ventilate because he was getting to tired. Not very much memory for the next two days, I was fairly sick and nauseas and obviously distraught.

Finally getting to hold him at 4 days old.
Like I said bits and pieces. I can remember a member of our family getting very upset with me because we would not let her see him. Our first tough decision as a parent. On Friday they told us that he was doing better and they would attempt to take the ventilator out but they had to decrease his ativan-which suppresses their breathing before they can place him back on cpap. So no one saw him on Friday not even I, Chris would go to the door and look at him but would not get close. And then blood pressure back up for mom-I remember getting in trouble by the nurse at this point-all I could say was it wasn't my fault! Li only had to stay about 1 1/2 weeks in the NICU and then we got to bring him home. He weighed a whopping 4 lb 12.8 oz that morning! Needless to say he did not look very secure in the carseat. Leaving the hospital the Sunday after he was born was one of the most heart renching things I've ever done.

One of our friends has told me that the one thing they remember about Liey is that he had to much skin for his body. He had hardly any fat. The pediatrician told us that it would take about 8-12 months for him to catch up with his peers. Nope not our Liey by 4 months old he had reached average weight and height and now at 4 years old we are way past average!

Terrible Twos Here We Come!
I never really understood why they call them the Terrible Twos when it always occurs before they turn two and three is way worse, so far four is appearing fairly whiny! Any who, we've entered our terrible two phase, lack of obedience but still oh so cute. It's so tough to not laugh when they realistically are being funny even though it is dangerous and a huge no no. Well last week I commented about her speaking abilities and as always they prove you to be a liar! She had a major vocabulary explosion this weekend which includes the word yeS. and that is her pronunciation on the S part. Our kids are huge mommy babies, I love it, however it does get on my hubby's nerves just a bit. Last night he laid down with Sweet Pea and to his surprise she stayed in the bed, so he quickly falls asleep-his first mistake, falling asleep before the baby! Well I hear commotion coming from the bedroom and when I arrive my sweet precious daughter has climbed onto the dresser and is coloring on the mirror! She exclaims, "It's Pretty" After some scolding and walking her to time out, she explains to me "its funny". Her entire 1 minute in time out she reiterates "its funny". Will she be our problem child-she definitely has a bigger fascination with colors and has colored on the walls, the floor, now the mirror. She's more defiant than even Li at this point. But never the less at least she has a sence of humor! It's Funny!

Sounds from the Collin's house
This beautiful little girl is becoming extremely vocal! Her new phrase: Help Me! Everything is help me, at least she's using it in context, now if we could only understand the difference in yes and no. It would be really nice if No didn't also mean yes! But look at how much she's grown, I'm rather impressed with her hair! It's finally long enough for a bow, if we could just get her to leave them in! I think in another week or two we may also be able to sport a pony tail!
